Privilege or Luck?
“Beliefs are the police of the mind. If beliefs are the police of the mind, what is your mind’s immigration policy?” - Saul Williams
Is it privilege or luck whether we identify as ‘us’ or ‘them’? I always find it admirable, and necessary, when institutions with power and privilege look inward.
Palazzo Grassi | Punta della Dogana boldly hosted a full day programme questioning the current narratives around migration, asking ourselves the hard questions and planting seeds of hope that the dominant narrative can be scrutinised. Together with Suha Nabhan, we led a fantastic group of artists, students, government officials, bankers, museum curators and more through a participatory workshop. Thank you all for your engagement!
Whichever field you work in - do these questions resonate with you? Or what questions do you ask yourself?
- Whose truths are we centering?
- Whose voices are we silencing or amplifying?
- Whose stories are we telling?
- Are we perpetuating the very narratives we are trying to dissect?

It will take me a while to properly process and digest the Venice Biennale - ‘Foreigners Everywhere’ - I look forward to doing that here, in community. Collectively, we raised more questions than answers - but that’s maybe how change happens… ?✨ 🌍
